A Service of Nine Lessons and Carols
The Service of Nine Lessons and Carols is a traditional service of Bible readings and carols that explains the story of the coming of the long-promised Saviour. This service is known and loved by Christians across the world, and many churches have to put on more than one of these evenings to accommodate the congregations that want to participate in it.
A service which is popular worldwide, the Nine Lessons and Carols originated in our own City of Truro. We are pleased to be able to host a service at Gloweth Chapel, and to include many of the Bible readings which were part of the original services held in Truro in 1880. Our 2018 Order of Service can be downloaded here.
This is a formal but very joyful service, packed full with words, both read out loud from the Bible, and sung vigorously by the congregation. Individuals, families and children are very welcome to come and participate in these wonderful words. We also plan to enjoy tea and mince pies afterwards.
In addition to the Nine Lessons service, we also host a very relaxed, lively, noisy and informal carol service, which you can read about here.
